Jessica’s other work
As part of a short-term contract, Jessica worked with The Street Theatre in Canberra to document their shows in production and formulate and implement their social media campaigns.
This included four outstanding in-house productions, Metamorphosis, Fragments, Flight Memory and Breaking The Castle.
“It was around a time when my focus was definitely more on mixing and production. I’d barely written and found it hard to lay something I liked down,” Citizen Kay recalled.
“Eventually though, due to a time crunch, I was able to get out of my own way and simply allow the words and performance to come out.”
It can be rare for artists who hit “the big time” to remember the little guy – and by this I mean Canberra (and all the other so-called regional centres in this wide brown land).
Someone who absolutely does not fit in this category is Amy Shark.
It’s not an easy thing to put yourself out there. To show yourself to the world and invite their judgement. But this is something that musicians constantly do. Baring their soul through their lyrics and melodies for all to hear.
Canberran singer/songwriter Dean Abbott is no different, releasing deeply personal lyrics that are often literal interpretations of his world.

Is life as a bug more futile and disappointing than as a human being?
This is just of the many questions posed in Steven Berhoff's adaptation of Franz Kafka's famous novella, The Metamorphosis.
This video is a teaser trailer to introduce audiences to Gregor Samsa. An ordinary man who inexplicably becomes a monstrous vermin, throwing his and his families life into chaos.
Gregor Samsa is a young man with a bright future. He has served as a soldier, he works hard and is unfalteringly polite. He plans to support his sister’s violin education and keeps his mother and father in the comfort they have become accustomed to in their retirement. Until one day, Gregor oversleeps his morning alarm and discovers he has become a gigantic insect. Feelings of revulsion turn to resentment with horrifying results.
This was a short behind the scenes look at The Street Theatre's upcoming production of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis, adapted by Steven Berhoff.
This video shows actor Dylan Van Den Berg working with a suspension harness as he looks for ways to become an insect as his character, Gregor, does in the play.
FEATURE ARTICLE: Who can help but support local music, and as a proud Canberran I am even prouder to have had the chance to interview this chart-topping trio.
I hate to toot my own horn, but this cover story was also my third BMA cover in a row — so toot toot!

I grew up around theatre productions and have always had a love of the stage. I also have lived experience with disability, chronic illness and all the changes people are forced to make as their body rebels against them.
My experience drew me to interview Hanna Cormick about her experience with illnesses that now see her primarily live in a sealed room, often reliant on a wheelchair. This, after touring the world as a dancer and performer, training in Paris no less, was a shock to the system.
Stories about how people grapple with the challenges of being anything but ‘normal’ are so important because there are so many people who need to hear them - either because they are living it or know someone affected by it.
